The ABF Women started their winter/spring 10-week Bible Study yesterday. Just over 100 women signed up to join this morning and evening study in Acts to learn about what it means to be God’s “witness” to the ends of the earth.
It was a warm time for women to meet one another over hors d’oeuvres, egg casserole, and coffee. After a few minutes of fellowship, Jessica Lup led a time of worship.
“I’m very much looking forward to seeing how the Lord moves, encourages, and speaks to these women during this study” said Shawna Duvall, Women’s Ministry Director. “Acts is rich with history about the early church and theology that we benefit from today.“
Shawna taught a 20-minute overview of Acts: who wrote it, when it was written, and why it’s important. She referenced Luke 1:1-4:
“Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.”
This verse is pertinent because Luke wanted Theophilus to be so certain of the truth that there’s no doubt about what’s right. Shawna challenged the women to know truth and proclaim truth to the world.
Luke also wrote Acts, and in chapter one verse eight, it says:
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
